Sonic Adventure Press Conference - Tokyo, August 22, 1998

While I was digging through my VHS collection searching for my old tape of GamePro TV episodes, I came across this little "gem." FUSE was an attempt by InterAct Accessories to publish a 30-minute show on video tape about video games, featuring celebrity interviews, previews and cheat codes for PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast games. According to its tag line, FUSE was to be "The Video Game Magazine of the Future." That future didn't last very long. I only remember seeing FUSE on sale once, back when I was renting a game from Blockbuster Video and the large cover featuring the new Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast immediately caught my eye. This tape was titled Volume 1, Nov./Dec. 1998. Who knows if there were any other episodes produced. Much of the tape is boring, featuring an interview with the Crystal Method about their PSX game N2O: Nitrous Oxide, and a short preview of Zelda: OoT for N64 and some other big PSX titles at the time. But the main interest of this tape is the coverage of the Sonic Adventure Press Conference held at the Tokyo International Forum on August 22, 1998. It was the first unveiling of the game for their upcoming Dreamcast system, and the event drew several thousand fans. Segata Sanshiro, Sega's promotional character for the Sega Saturn at the time, led the fans in a chant of "Sonikku!
