It was complicated enough to choose a new television when there were just LCD and Plasma TVs to choose from, but things have recently got even more complicated with the invention of LED TVs. Out of the three different types, LED TVs are most similar to the LCD models, the main difference is that the backlights that create the picture are light emitting diodes (LEDs).

LED TVs are quite different to a traditional fluorescent tube TV as each of the individual LEDs that projects the picture onto the screen can be turned off on a individual basis. This creates are far better picture quality as it creates a far darker black than normal screens and better defined images.

This said one of the main advantages of a LED screen is its size. Unlike a LCD panel that has to house mercury to produce it's picture, the space required to hold the LED lights is minimal and as such LED TVs are far thinner than a LCD and look far more sleek and stylish.

Another huge advantage of LED TVs over both plasma TVs and LCD TVs is the amount of power it consumes. It uses up to 70% less power than the other systems which over the course of a year or a TVs lifetime can lead to huge savings. It's also important when you consider that as a whole we use up far too much energy and shortages could be possible in the future unless we do something about it.

When choosing which TV to purchase, the most important factors to consider are the space it has to fit in and your budget.
