It was only during Medieval times when "Ta meta ta phusika" was compacted into Latin as the singular noun metaphysica.' The Arabs were very familiar with Metaphysics, keeping the legacy of Classical Greek philosophers alive during Europe's Dark Ages. Their translation of metaphysics is "the science of divine things."
