LED Back-Lighting For LCD Television

In the highly competitive television market, LCD could retain its superiority throughout due to many advantageous factors. LCD television is well known for its energy efficiency. This single advantage has earned more patronage for the product in the context of energy costs spiraling upwards all over the world. Further energy conservation is now part of universal agenda. Unlike its competitor plasma television, LCD does not suffer from burn-in problems. But in some models individual pixels on the LCD screen burn causing black and white dots. Florescent bulbs illuminate the liquid crystals which is not self luminescent.

In the recent past some modification was effected in the LCD television as far as the backlighting is concerned. Instead of florescent bulbs, Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (LED as it is known) is used for backlighting. It is Sony in their Bravia model used the above technique for the first time. The new technology is given the nomenclature LED-LCD television. One of the main advantages of this new technique is the enhanced viewing angles in this new version of LCD television. Shorter viewing angles was a drawback in the LCD and was also an irritant in this otherwise superior product. Employment of LED helped to increase the longevity of LCD. Brightness level is also improved. Generation of heat is considerably reduced. Colour saturation is found superb after the induction of LED backlighting, apart from the enhanced colour reproduction capability.

The conventional LCD television required periodical replacement of florescent bulbs. But introduction of LED backlighting eliminated the need for such replacement of bulbs. The durability of LED system is significant. Use of more than three colours in the LED backlighting helped the system to exceed the NTSC standard stipulated in the context of colour range. Another remarkable advantage is that LED backed television can function on low voltage unlike others. It also reduces the delay in the commencement of display as warming up of the system is not necessary. Refresh rates is also enhanced. However there are minor hitches in the new system. Local dimming feature is a phenomenon which may increase energy consumption marginally. Secondly this new version of LCD television will be costlier than the earlier models.

But experts who have studied the patterns of consumer behavior in respect of entertainment segment allay such apprehensions. Cost escalation for the sake of quality enhancement will not adversely affect the market fortunes of products and services. They are able to point out examples for such behavioral patterns in the past. All products that are cheaper need not attract consumer patronage. It is expected that more LCD manufacturers may follow the Sony example and adopt LED backlighting in their products. LED backlighting technique has received support from environmentalists as it is found having no hazards of mercury contamination from discarded junks. Those who share environmental concerns do agree that cost escalation should not be an excuse for environmental pollution. Enlightened consumers will share this view and opt for LED based LCD television in the future.

Plasma, LCD, Or LED - Which Flat Screen Television is Right For You?

When shopping for a big TV, the number of choices can be overwhelming at first. The three main types of TV can be found in stores, plasma, LCD and LED in this article. I the differences between these three main types, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each to go ahead.

Plasma Pros and Cons

A popular choice for gamers and sports fans, television sets have several advantages over plasma and LCD LED cousins.One major benefit of plasma televisions is their very high refresh rates and fast response times. Another advantage of plasma televisions is more accurate color reproduction and fidelity; on most LCD screens the color black looks closer to dark gray.

The third and last major advantage of plasma TVs is the price. For dimensions of 42 inches and above, plasma TVs are generally cheaper and Set LED LCD.

Now the disadvantages: Plasma sets are generally heavier than traditional LCD TV LED, more power, and rarely smaller than 42 inches.

LCD TVs have some distinct disadvantages, but they are still an attractive option for many buyers. They come in manydifferent sizes and price ranges, with the sets under 42 inches being affordable for many people. The lighter weight and less power usage compared to plasma televisions are also desirable selling points for some shoppers.

LED TV - The State of the Art of Television Takes Another Step Forward

If you're in the market for a new television, you've probably noticed there's much more to making a selection than just knowing what size you want. Very soon however an LED TV will be the industry standard.

Years ago it was as much about buying a television as a piece of furniture as it was looking at the technical specifications. Now you have to decide between plasma, LCD, projection, DLP, and on and on.

Not only are the images being produced by these new LED TVs much better than even the latest models of plasma and other LCD HDTVs, they're also being sold at fantastic prices. Whereas plasma devices, when first released, where several times what you can buy one now for, the LED TV can be sold much more reasonably because the LED technology isn't new, but just existing technology that has advanced, and is being used in a slightly different manner.

I believe many people automatically think of plasma when they think of the best HDTV display, but that will soon change. The early days of LCD displays were those of slow image reproduction, blacks that weren't black, and other problems. Soon, even LCD displays will be more sought after than the plasma screens. Plasma also has a relatively short life span when compared to other display types.

When you look at the new LED devices from Samsung, there's really no hard choice in deciding on which set to purchase. That is of course, assuming you're looking for the best image. The Samsung LED TVs, and also those being released by other manufacturers, including Sony, Toshiba, and several others, will soon dominate the market.

Even the best LED TV being sold presently is very affordable for those looking to buy a higher end device. Even if you're on a fairly tight budget, the smaller sets are priced surprisingly low. I don't know if you could call it a drawback, but the only possible pricing problem is, don't expect to see the drastic price reductions in the LED TV technology as we did in plasma HDTVs. If you remember, the newest plasma HDTVs were in the five figures initially, but again, that was new technology.

So, if you're in the market for a new HDTV, that a serious look at one of the LED TVs from Samsung. There's already many different options and price ranges to choose from. With all the incredible features, such as Internet TV and many others, it's a matter of deciding how many bells and whistles you need. Whichever LED TV you decide on will no doubt have a stunning picture. One look, and you will be sold.
